Below are some questions you should ask a doggy day care service provider:
- What does a typical day look like?
Ask what a typical day looks like for your dog and the types of activities that are on offer. Our day is very structured in terms of timings for walks, lunches, snoozes, etc. We only do half hour walks in the field, and we then swap the groups so that one group rests while the other one walks. This also ensures that all dogs get plenty of downtime and rest time in between playing.Also, ask the provider about any policies they have about dogs’ behaviour and wellbeing. As an example, we have a strict policy on dogs being fully vaccinated, including for kennel cough.
- How do they socialise different types of dogs?
Ask the provider how they socialise their dogs. Apart from providing companionship and mental stimulation when you’re not home, socialisation is a crucial part of a puppy’s development. It’s better to build a dog’s confidence in a group of dogs that are of a similar size and temperament.We split our dogs into two groups to ensure smaller dogs, puppies, and nervous dogs are not knocked over or scared by larger, bouncier dogs. Likewise, the larger, bouncier dogs are in a separate group, so they can have a good run around and play with similar sized dogs.
- What doggy day care facilities do they have?
We have indoor playrooms with lots of fun toys and rest rooms with cosy beds, air conditioning and heating. This helps to ensure that the dogs are not outside in all weathers for long periods of time.We post photos of the dogs every day to reassure our customers that their dogs are settled and having fun. We also give feedback at the end of each play day – some customers compare this to a school report!
- Are the doggy day care assistants trained?
Check that the doggy day care provider has a team trained in canine care. Our Doggy Daycare Assistants have a range of qualifications, such as Animal Care and Management, Dog Grooming, or as Veterinary Care Assistants.Our team will supervise your dog closely all day, when they are outside playing or inside snoozing. We always encourage them to rest when they are inside. As we have at least one member of staff for every eight dogs, your dog will receive our attention and the highest level of care.
