5 ideas for good dog treatsAre you struggling to know what to give your dog as a treat apart from dog biscuits? Here are five ideas for good dog treats that will make your four-legged companion your best friend forever! We have included a few healthy options too.

Fun and tasty dog treats

    • Carrots
Simple, cheap and nutritious, many dogs love chomping away on a fresh carrot. Due to their natural sweetness, this is a popular veggie treat packed full of fibre and vitamin A.
    • Apples
High in fibre and vitamin C, most dogs love crunching on an apple. But you need to prepare this fruit in the right way before you give it to your dog. Cut the apple into pieces and remove the core and all pips. Apple cores can become choking hazards. Also, this is a treat that should be given in moderation due to natural fruit sugars.
    • Natural dog chews
There are a variety of dog chews that are made from beef or chicken jerky type foodstuffs. Some are also dental chews that will help you keep your dog’s teeth clean. They work by removing any plaque and tartar build-up from your dog’s teeth as they chew. Always check the ingredients to make sure there are no nasties like artificial additives, preservatives or flavours. Ask our team for recommendations.
    • Peanut butter popsicles
This is a great treat for a hot day which you can easily make at home on a small budget. Mix a cup of peanut butter (choose unsalted and unsweetened) and then mash with half a banana. Add a little water and then freeze the mixture within a mould or a fun dog toy such as a Kong. Once it’s frozen, give it to your dog.
    • Doggy ice cream
If your furry companion hasn’t already tasted ice cream specially designed for dogs, then they’ll love this tasty treat! Human ice cream can make dogs sick so it’s important to not let them have too much of our much-loved treat. Doggy ice cream tends to have less sugar and lactose, as well as ingredients that are easier to digest. This type of ice cream is ideal for when your doggy needs to cool down.
